Get ready for a journey into the heart of Appalachia with Erik (aka Cletus McCoy), the frontman of the popular Cowpunk Americana band, The Surreal McCoys. Erik, a son of four generations of coal miners, takes us on a nostalgic trip down memory lane with his first solo album, “Appalachian Gothic.” From growing up on the banks of the Monongahela River in West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania, listening to punk rock and classic country, to discovering his roots in Johnny Cash and George Jones, this album is a testament to Erik’s connection to his heritage.

The album takes a deep dive into the hard realities of the region, exploring themes like the legacy of coal mining, the opioid crisis, and more. But it also taps into a defiant streak of optimism, with upbeat rockers like “Winona” and “Yours in the Struggle.” With its blend of classic country, rock ‘n’ roll, and punk, the album is produced by the legendary Eric “Roscoe” Ambel, featuring guitar by Ambel, bass by Jeremy Chatzky (Bruce Springsteen’s Seeger Sessions), and drums by Kenny Soule, with special appearances by Keith Christopher, Andy York, and Phil Cimino. “Appalachian Gothic” dropped on January 20, 2023, with two singles released on October 17, 2022, and November 21, 2022. Get ready to rock, folks!
